Today, May 27, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India granted Junio its own Certificate of Authorisation to issue Prepaid Payment Instruments. We’re no longer operating under a partner’s licence — Junio is now a payments company in its own right.

We’ve been building toward this since in-principle approval in November 2025. Many months of audits, compliance work, and capital requirements later — we’re here.

Your child gets a wallet. And a UPI handle to go with it.

Until today, the Junio card worked wherever cards are accepted — online, offline, at the school canteen. What it couldn’t do was let your child hold a balance that was actually theirs, or receive money directly over UPI. A grandparent wanting to send Diwali ₹500 to the child? It had to come to you first.

That changes now. Your child gets a Junio wallet — their own balance, in their name — and a UPI handle like pari@junio to receive money into it.

What that looks like in practice:

  • Nani can send directly to the child, not to you
  • Birthday money goes where it was meant to go
  • The child can hold, save, and spend from their own balance — on the card, via UPI, or both
  • For the first time, they experience what it actually feels like to receive money, not just spend it

We’re rolling this out in waves over the coming months. We’ll write here when it’s ready for your family.

Things move faster now

Owning the full licence means we’re not coordinating across two entities every time we want to ship something. The features families have asked us for most — better merchant controls, sharper category limits, more flexible KYC tiers — are now ours to build and release directly. We’ll move faster. Not all at once, but noticeably.

What doesn’t change

Your child’s card works exactly as it did yesterday. Balances are safe. Every limit and toggle you’ve set stays put. The basics — parent loads, child spends, you see everything, you stay in control — aren’t going anywhere.

The migration from our previous partner’s licence to Junio’s own will happen over the coming weeks. You don’t need to do a thing. If we ever need something from you — a re-KYC, a new card — we’ll say so directly, in the app and by email.

Thank you

To Transcorp International Limited — you held the licence and infrastructure that made Junio real before today. We’re grateful for that, and for the care you’ve shown our customers throughout.

To the 2 million+ families who trusted us with your pocket-money routine — and the kids who made every product call feel like it mattered — thank you. Your weekend canteen run, your tier-2 kirana, your “papa, please top up” — that’s what we’re building for.

More soon on the UPI rollout and what the new licence unlocks first.
